Restaurant of the Month: MAZE – Gordon Ramsay

Fine Dining, exceptional table service, mixed in with the peaceful interior design, this place is hard to beat. Maze and Maze Grill are part of Gordon Ramsays chain of restaurants. Ramsay’s chose Josh Emett (originally from New Zealand) to be Head Chef of this exciting new restaurant situated in busy South Bank, Melbourne. Gordon Ramsay has teamed up with Crown Metropol to offer his food cuisine as in-room dining 24 hours a day.

French cuisine mixed with a bit of an Australian influence is what you’ll find at Maze. Being a high class restaurant, you will not be disappointed with the exceptional creations from the kitchen. The a la carte menu is taste sized portions, so you’ll need around 4 – 5 dishes to really be satsified. They offer a Chef’s Selection degustation menu which I highly recommend, it consists of 7 dishes, and you choose most of them. Amongst the dishes been served to your table, you have fresh hot turkish bread to nibble on with sides of oil and sea weed butter.

So much care and detail has gone into each dish, it is truely a credit to Josh Emett and his team of busy chefs. The table service is fantastic, and the staff are very knowledgable with the wines and food that is been presented. Most of the produce is local from Australia, but with Josh Emetts New Zealand influence, he has thrown a few New Zealand ingredients in there too.

Maze Grill is a different restaurant altogether, they are a New York style open grill. When you are seated in the restaurant you have can see the chefs cooking the food right near you. The atmosphere is far more casual and laid back, a lot louder too, this may have something to do with the open kitchen.
