Medici Italian Restaurant – Docklands

Over the weekend my partner decided to take me out for dinner, and seeings he let me choose the restaurant, I decided to go straight to docklands one of my favourite suburbs in Melbourne. We went for an early dinner arriving at 5pm to park our car, and went for a walk down New Quay to find a restaurant. We decided on an Italian restaurant called Medici. Now I have been there a few times before but had only ever tried there famous pizzas, they are great, so I thought by going here again I would try something different off the menu.

As we approached the door, there was a waiter standing there who opened the door for us and another waiter to show us to a seat. They are quick on service, and later on we realised they are quick at bringing the meals out and then vacating the tables too. I love docklands a lot because it is close to heaps of stuff especially Etihad Stadium, and when we got into the restaurant we realised it was full of St Kilda Supporters who had just been to the St Kilda vs Richmond football game.

Anti Pasto platter for 2

We ordered this anti-pasto platter for entree. It had everything on it and we were so surprised how much flavour there was. As this was a dish for 2, it had 2 of everything on the plate. Marinated octopus, Marinated green olives, kalamata olives, Marinated mushrooms, boccincini, spinach, salmon, ham, proscuitto, carrots, cheese, sun-dried tomatoes and more olives. This was nice.

Bruschetta

We also ordered some bruschetta for starters, and I struggled to eat this without spilling the tomato topping all over the table! When the waiter came to clear the plates, she informed me that know one has eaten the bruschetta without making a mess everywhere.

Lamb Skewers

My Partner ordered these lamb skewers for mains, and I must say this dish looked quite ordinary. There were 2 skewers on top of a greek salad. The salad had no flavour at all, tomatoes and cucumbers tasted dry, and to make things worse the lamb was extremely tough. So my partner was not impressed.

I ordered the Salmon dish which is pictured on the top of this post, and I had the opposite experience, I enjoyed my meal. The salmon was sitting atop mashed potato and was served with wilted spinach and a tomato salsa. The flavours combined went really well, especially the tomato salsa with the salmon.

Although we had one bad meal, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially families as this is a very child friendly place. I noticed a stack of baby/infant high chairs for the diners to use. Service was excellent and the meals came out quickly too.
