On a cold Melbourne winter’s night, we went for a walk down Docklands New Quay Promenade, after dining out at Medici Italian restaurant. We walked past Limonetto and said how we can’t wait till summer again so we can enjoy eating gelato and ice cream, until my partner said “lets just get some now, this stuff looks good”, and that’s exactly what it was, ‘good’.
I always find it hard to decide on a flavour, I ended getting a waffle cone with pistacio gelato and a honey combe flavour, both were very nice. My partner tried cherry ripple which was like cherry ripe and cookies and cream gelato in a waffle cone too. The cherry ripple was rich and tasty while the cookies and cream had biscuit pieces scattered through out. Out of the 4 flavours we choose, I’ve got to say that the pistacio was the greatest by far. My camera wasn’t working so well so I didn’t get to take many photos.
The gelato from Limonetto is the freshest gelato you will ever find. Talking to the owner Nevio Belia’s son behind the counter, he tells me that they make the gelato fresh every day. They import the pastes from Italy, and the rest of the ingredients are all fresh Australian produce, fresh full cream milk, berries, biscuits etc… To ensure the freshness of the gelato, they tend to make half tubs in the winter, as winter is always so quiet, but in summer they go through around 120 tubs of gelato EVERY DAY!!! So you can imagine how busy they are cooking all day.
If your down by the Docks in Melbourne sometime, be sure to check out Limonetto, you’ll be wanting to come back for more. They also serve espresso coffee and cold drinks.

I once ate gelato outside when it was snowing in Cambridge, Mass. But heck, when the ice cream is so good, you don’t even feel the cold.
Oh Yum…! The only issue for me is Docklands!
Docklands is one of those places that I rarely venture to… almost close to never. Too bad, coz it means all the nice foods and stuff that people find there, I’ll never get to try! =(
I love that place! haven’ been there for a while though!
Pistachio gelato is one of my fave flavors. There’s a place in the Los Angeles area — Bulgarini’s — that makes the most intense pistachio gelato I’ve ever had. One scoop tastes like it has 10 pounds of pistachios ground into it. Amazing!
