Taste 2010 – Part 2

If you’ve previously read my part 1 article for Taste of Melbourne, You’ll know that I had a fantastic time thanks to April from My Food Trails for providing me with tickets to the event. One of the restaurants I particulary wanted to visit was Esposito.

Hot Date Tart - Esposito

Esposito had sold out of their first dish, Spiendini seafood skewers, so I tried their hot date tart. Though it wasn’t warm when I got the tart, it still tasted quite good. The dates were so finely processed that it made a soft texture in your mouth, rich but enjoyable. After all the food i had previously ate, I was struggling to get through this serving.

Gundowring Ice cream

As if I hadn’t already had enough desserts, when I came across this ice cream stall I simply could not resist.

Golden Syrup Ice Cream In Waffle Cone

I tried the golden syrup ice cream flavour, and I think i made the best choice. Absolutely delicious!! So soft in texture, and rich in taste. My kind of Ice Cream. I loved it so much I asked the man for a stoskists list and realised that in melbourne they sell in Richmond, South Melbourne, South Yarra and St Kilda. If your interested in finding more about Gundowring like I was check out their website here ‘Gundowring’.

Miniture White Chocolate Mousse Cakes

We also tried these Miniture white chocolate mousse cakes from the organic chocolate stand. I was amazed at how they made these pastry cases so tiny!

Royal Exhibition Building - Carlton

One of my disapointments were from the  event was the restaurants selling out of popular dishes so quickly. I’m not sure if this happened because I attended the last session of the event or not, but I got so disapointed when I turned up to stalls telling me they were sold out. Well next year I’ll learn to get in early and attend the opening night.
Taste of Melbourne 2010 – part 1

I attended the Taste of Melbourne festival over the weekend thanks to April from My Food Trails for supplying me with some tickets. This was the first time I have attended this particular event and enjoyed every bit of it. The event ran over 4 days with 6 sessions, we went to the last sessionn on sunday, and luckily arrived 45 minutes early because the lines were huge with people waiting to get in and have a look. The anticipation was brewing outside with the help of the DJ who provided us with music as we eagerly waited.

Taste of Melbourne Festival from balcony

There were so many pop up stands, but the feature of the event were the fine Melbourne restaurants that were putting their food on display. One of the places we tried was the Libertine & Le Traiteur.

Pissaladiere Feuillete

For 8 crowns ($8.00, crowns were the events currency used on the day) we got this Pissaladiere Feuillete which was flaky puff pastry, soft onion, white anchovie & olive tapenade. This turned out to be my favourite of the day, and I never thought I’d say that about a puff pastry dish, but everything else on the plate went so well together. The olive tapenade was so rich in flavour but not too overpowering.

Longrain Bar

The most coolest stand of all had to be the Longrain, they had their restaurant stand set up as well as a bar which was serving up the most wonderful cocktails. And to top it off, Longrain also provided their own DJ for the day.

Cocktail Menu at Longrain Bar

Longrain Bar were offering 4 different cocktails and 4 of the same cocktails in mocktail form, they were ‘Ping Pong’, ‘Calmin Miranda’, ‘Moscow Mule’ and ‘Mojito’. We tried the Mojito (a couple of times over).

'Mojito' cocktail at Longrain Bar

They used the freshest limes and mint to make this cocktail, so we thought the $12.00 price tag was so cheap, we had to go for another.

Josh Emmett from Maze and I

And the highlight from the day has got to go to meeting Josh Emmett from Maze restaurant by Gordon Ramsey. It was great to have a chat with him about what his doing with the restaurant.

Keep an eye out for my other pictures soon to come up about the festival.
